I actually replied to one of these…

>Why are you using Linux, instead of a more mainstream OS like Windows or OS X?

I use both Windows and various distributions of GNU/Linux. The short answer would be that I’m just more familiar with a Linux system. I noticed a long time ago that the way it’s set-up and organized is a lot more logical (or at least closer to my own logic) than Windows.

>Do you not need compatibility with all the important programs?

No. I don’t. Most of the “important programs” have great alternatives and are themselves, too flawed to actually pay for/fund. I don’t game that much anyway so there goes that. The only exception would be Photoshop, which I do run on my Windows desktop.

>Do you not need a system that is tested and QA’ed properly by paid professionals?

Paid professionals are not nearly as reliable as people that share certain problems, and come together on forums and wikias to solve them. You typically only have to do a couple google searches and most popular distributions have great documentation from the start.

Basically, in all of my “computing” I’ve run into just as many problems in Linux as I have in Windows, it’s just a lot easier to understand and work and a lot less frustrating.
